Black Lives Matter: A Letter To Our PRSA Members & Supporters

    June 9, 2020

    PRSA Memphis Members and Supporters:

The Memphis Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America stands in solidarity with our Black colleagues, members and supporters against systemic racism and injustice. Our hearts break for our country and the families and friends of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and countless others who have been senselessly killed due to the color of their skin.

Diversity and inclusion are a major factor in our organization, and we strive to continuously cultivate a culture that respects, recognizes and celebrate each person regardless of age, race, religion or sexual identity. As communicators, we have a social responsibility to be ethical and promote a healthy dialogue with the public and build relationships with all people.

We also stand in support of the First Amendment, and those who are exercising their rights to protest and the journalists who are on the front lines capturing these historic moments as they unfold. As a professional organization, PRSA Memphis is committed to hosting inclusive dialogues, collaborating with our student chapter, conducting meaningful outreach and continuously pushing diversity, inclusion and equity in everything we do.

In the words of diversity and inclusion expert Verna Myers, “Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance.”

    With heartfelt sincerity,

2020 Board of the PRSA Memphis Chapter
